Visiting Tobermory and looking for the best hiking trails? Well, there are so many ! If you are looking for a moderately difficult trail that is not too long, then the burnt point loop is what you are looking for !
The burnt point loop is about 5 km trail located in Fathom Five National Marine Park. There is a lookout at the beginning of the loop at Little Dunks bay and one at the middle of the loop at the Georgian bay. The water in these two points is crystal clear and super nice, so I recommend that you take your swim suit with you (if you are not already wearing it) to be able to jump in the water if you feel like it.
The start of the trail is just next to the Fathom Five National Marine Park Visitor Center, this is where you are going to park your car as well. There are several trails that starts and ends at this point so look for the sign that says the "burnt point loop" because it can get confusing.
The first 1 km of this trail is paved and very easy to hike. By the end of this part you will reach a lookout point on little dunks bay. The water here is crystal clear so you might want to take a break here, take off your hiking shoes and dip your feet into the water. Trust me, you won't regret it.
You will then start the "actual" loop which is relatively more difficult than this first part and mostly rocky. Make sure you follow the blue lines on the trees to remain on the trail, if you lost sight of them you can easily get lost.
At some point, you will find that these blue lines will be on the rocks and not on the trees ! Don't panic, yes you need to walk on those rocks and cross the water to continue on the trail.
When you finish the first half of the loop, you will be directly on the Georgian bay, another spot with crystal clear and EXTREMELY cold water. You can Jump if you dare ;)
After having enough of the scenery and the beauty of the water at this spot, continue hiking along the other side of the loop to reach your starting point again.
